Armed Robber Meets Armed Citizen in Nevada Showdown

Published

on

A tense encounter unfolded on a Henderson, Nevada street over the weekend when an armed individual confronted another man, demanding his wallet and cell phone. However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the intended victim revealed he was also armed.

According to the City of Henderson, the incident occurred just before 4 a.m. on Saturday in the 1000 block of Wellness Place. Responding to multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots and a man lying on the ground, Henderson Police and Fire Departments quickly arrived at the scene.

Detectives’ preliminary investigation revealed that the unknown assailant, carrying a gun, approached the 33-year-old man in a threatening manner. He demanded the man’s personal belongings, but the victim, fearing for his life, responded by drawing his own firearm.

“One never knows who’s carrying these days,” officials noted, highlighting the unpredictability of such encounters. The victim, apparently quicker on the draw, fired multiple rounds at the assailant.

Despite efforts by officers and paramedics to administer lifesaving measures, the assailant died at the scene. Officials confirmed that no one else was injured during the incident.

The 33-year-old man who fired his gun remained at the scene and fully cooperated with the investigation. Authorities are treating the case as a homicide and will release the identity of the deceased male, along with the cause and manner of death, following next of kin notifications.

The public is encouraged to provide any information related to the case by contacting the Henderson Police Department at 702-267-4911 or 3-1-1. For those wishing to remain anonymous, tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or through their website. Officials mentioned that tips leading to a felony arrest or indictment processed through Crime Stoppers might result in a cash reward.

The incident sparked a wave of comments on the Henderson Police Department’s Facebook post, with many expressing support for the man who defended himself.

“People should realize Nevada is both an open carry and concealed carry state just like Texas and Montana,” one commenter said. “You never know who might be packing that 2nd Amendment.”

“Good guy with a gun 1, bad guy with a gun 0,” another commenter wrote.

“Sounds like a good shoot,” another commenter said.

“One less booking,” another commenter declared.

I think the good guy should get the cash reward. His actions led to the apprehension of the thug.

I wonder how many times the thug got away with the same type of action?

FAFO, he did! This is how justice is carried out, when judges and lawyers screw everything up! Had he been behind bars where he belonged, he’d still be alive!

the thugs should be kept away from the law abiding, taxpaying citizens. But this way is a win win. Don’t have to house & feed him, pay for “the system” to use up more tax money and the intended victim, got in some LIVE, REAL TIME target practice. He should get a reward for cleaning up his community. IT should happen more (in RED states). I could care less about the blue (yankee) ones. TRUMP 2024

5 Smart Ways to Make Your Dairy Last Longer in Emergencies

Published

on

When it comes to emergency food preparedness, storing dairy long-term can be quite the challenge. But fear not, because we’ve got some tried-and-true methods to help you extend the shelf life of your dairy products. Whether you’re planning for emergencies or just want to make your dairy last longer, here are some effective strategies to consider.

1. Freezing Dairy

Freezing is a straightforward method to prolong the shelf life of dairy products. Whether it’s milk, cheese, or yogurt, freezing can help you keep these items fresh for weeks or even months.

Pros: The simplicity of freezing is a major advantage. With just a little prep work, you can store your dairy in the freezer and forget about it until you need it.

Cons: The downside is that freezing requires a constant power supply, which might not be reliable during emergencies. Additionally, dairy products have varying freezer shelf lives: yogurt lasts one to two months, hard cheeses up to six months, and milk about three months.

How to Do It: To freeze dairy, place it in a sealed container and ensure it’s thoroughly frozen. This method works best for certain types of dairy, so be sure to check specific guidelines for each product.

2. Preserving with Wood Ash

Using wood ash for food preservation is an ancient technique that can be surprisingly effective, especially for hard cheeses.

Pros: This method is eco-friendly, as it utilizes wood ash that might otherwise be discarded. It can preserve cheese and even eggs for extended periods.

Cons: The smoky flavor imparted by wood ash might not be to everyone’s liking. Additionally, the preservation duration can vary based on storage conditions.

How to Do It: Layer wood ash in a dark container, place your dairy on top, and cover it with more ash. Store in a cool, dark place. Hard cheeses stored this way can last several months, though anecdotal evidence suggests they might last even longer.

3. Rendering Butter into Ghee

Butter doesn’t store well in the freezer or wood ash, but rendering it into ghee can significantly extend its shelf life.

Pros: Ghee can last from six to twelve months and has a higher smoke point, making it ideal for cooking. It’s also a good option for those with dairy intolerance, as it contains fewer dairy proteins.

Cons: Some people dislike the strong, nutty flavor of ghee, which can overpower certain dishes.

How to Do It: Follow a simple process to render butter into ghee, ensuring the solids turn a golden-brown color. This transformation enhances both the longevity and versatility of your butter.

4. Waxing Cheese

Waxing cheese is a highly effective preservation method, commonly used for hard and dry cheeses.

Pros: Cheese sealed in wax can remain fresh for up to 25 years. This method is so reliable that some cheeses are waxed and stored for years before hitting the market.

Cons: Waxing is best suited for hard cheeses. Soft cheeses don’t fare well with this method, and for optimal results, waxed cheese should be stored in a refrigerator or freezer.

How to Do It: Melt cheese wax, apply it with a natural bristled brush, and ensure a thorough coating. Repeat the process to create a protective layer, then store the waxed cheese in a cool environment.

5. Canning Milk

Canning milk is a contentious topic, with opinions divided on its safety and effectiveness.

Pros: For those who dislike powdered milk, canned milk offers a taste closer to fresh milk and can last one to two years.

Cons: Some organizations advise against canning milk due to safety concerns, specifically the risk of botulism. While some claim it’s safe with proper pressure canning, it’s crucial to be aware of the risks involved.

How to Do It: If you choose to can milk, use a pressure canner at 10 pounds of pressure. Thoroughly research the process to minimize risks and ensure safety.

In conclusion, while storing dairy long-term can be challenging, these methods offer viable solutions for extending the shelf life of your dairy products. Whether you opt for freezing, wood ash preservation, ghee rendering, cheese waxing, or milk canning, each method has its pros and cons. Consider your needs, preferences, and available resources to choose the best approach for your situation.

Master Self-Sufficiency Without Spending a Dime

Published

on

In today’s world, the idea of self-sufficiency is gaining traction as more people realize the importance of relying on themselves. The journey to self-reliance doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive. While it’s beneficial to have a stockpile of survival gear, the real key to independence lies in acquiring the skills needed to thrive without external help.

One of the most effective ways to become more self-sufficient is by building a bartering network. This concept, reminiscent of The Great Depression era, involves exchanging goods and services without the use of money. Start by connecting with people in your community who have skills or resources you might need in an emergency. Bartering can be a valuable tool when traditional systems fail.

Understanding your local flora can also be a lifesaver. Educate yourself on which plants are edible and which are dangerous. Books like “Backyard Foraging: 65 Familiar Plants You Didn’t Know You Could Eat” are excellent resources. Additionally, knowing how to identify and use medicinal plants, such as aloe, can provide essential first aid solutions.

Herbs are not just for cooking; they have medicinal properties too. The National Institutes of Health notes, “Plants have a long and rich history of medicinal use and, even in the era of modern medicine, their medicinal properties are still sought after.” Start an herb garden using seeds from a local seed library, which many public libraries now offer.

Building a strong community is another step toward self-sufficiency. In times of crisis, your neighbors are often your first responders. Establish trust and connections with those around you to create a support network that can be invaluable during emergencies.

Learning to make your own dog food can also be a step towards independence. With common household ingredients, you can prepare nutritious meals for your pets, ensuring their well-being even when store supplies are inaccessible.

While starting a hobby farm does require some initial investment, it can be a rewarding path to self-sufficiency. Begin small, focusing on growing or raising what your family can use, and gradually expand your efforts over time.

Developing new skills is crucial. Consider learning Morse Code to communicate without relying on monitored channels. Master off-grid cooking techniques so you’re not dependent on utilities for meal preparation. Fire-building is another essential skill, providing warmth, cooking options, and signaling capabilities in emergencies.

Water is vital for survival, and knowing how to find and purify it is crucial, especially given recent threats to municipal water supplies. Additionally, learning to act as a “gray man” can help you navigate emergencies without drawing unwanted attention.

Utilize free resources like public libraries and online courses to expand your knowledge. These platforms offer valuable information on various self-sufficiency skills, from identifying edible plants to basic home repairs.

Medical emergencies may arise when professional help is unavailable. Equip yourself with basic first aid knowledge, including CPR and the Heimlich maneuver, and learn how to perform these skills with limited resources.

Finally, become your own handyman. The internet is filled with instructional videos on repairing everything from household appliances to car engines. Mastering basic repair skills will save you money and make you more self-reliant.

By embracing these strategies, you can enhance your self-sufficiency without breaking the bank, ensuring that you and your family are prepared for whatever challenges may come your way.

Master Cold Weather with These Essential Gear Tricks

Published

on

For those who embrace the cold and venture outdoors regardless of the weather, having a few tricks up your sleeve can make all the difference. Whether you’re preparing for emergencies or simply enjoying winter’s embrace, these cold-weather gear hacks will enhance your experience.

Handling liquid fuel in freezing temperatures requires caution. White gas, or liquid fuel, remains in liquid form even below freezing, but it can cause frostnip or frostbite upon skin contact. To prevent cold injury, wrap your fuel bottle with duct tape for insulation.

When it comes to water bottles, ice tends to form at the top first, blocking access to the liquid below. By storing your bottle upside down, the ice forms at the bottom, allowing you to drink from the top when you flip it right side up.

Snack bars can become rock-hard in the cold, making them difficult to eat. Keep your snacks in a jacket or pant pocket to utilize your body heat and keep them edible.

A piece of an old insulated foam pad can serve multiple purposes. Use it as a seat to avoid a cold, wet bottom during breaks. It can also provide extra insulation under your sleeping mat or keep dehydrated meals warm while they cook.

Before slipping into your sleeping bag, get your blood flowing. A short walk or a few jumping jacks will generate heat for your bag to trap, warming you up more quickly. Just be careful not to work up a sweat.

If your hands tend to sweat during hikes, consider wearing nitrile or latex gloves as liners. They prevent sweat from soaking into your gloves, keeping your hands warmer. This is similar to using oven roasting bags over your feet to keep socks dry.

Cold weather can significantly reduce the performance of alkaline batteries. “Lithium batteries, on the other hand, are much more powerful than alkaline batteries and function very well in cold weather,” making them the ideal choice for electronics like headlamps.

For added warmth in your boots, trace insoles from reflective material like that found in sun visors, known as Reflectix. These reflective insoles are particularly useful when spending time in a deer stand or bird blind.

Instead of purchasing expensive neoprene bottle parkas, wrap your hot water bottles in heavy wool socks. They’ll stay warm throughout the day, nestled with your gear. Alternatively, use leftover Reflectix and duct tape to create an insulated cozy.

Neck gaiters are an underrated insulation layer. “If you’re feeling chilled, put one on around your neck,” as it covers major veins and arteries, quickly warming you up. Thin gaiters can double as a scarf, keeping freezing air from your lungs and wind off your face.

Leg gaiters are essential for winter hiking. They prevent snow from entering your boots, keeping your feet warm and dry. Lightweight and unobtrusive, they also keep mud, burrs, and bugs at bay.

These hacks can transform your cold-weather outings, ensuring you stay warm, comfortable, and prepared for whatever winter throws your way.
