Late one evening in Texas, an unexpected series of events unfolded when a pizza delivery encounter ended in a fatal shooting. A pizza delivery driver in Yellowstone Boulevard claimed that he was forced to shoot and kill a man who, alongside another individual, attempted to rob him at gunpoint. The circumstances surrounding the event, however, have been called into question by the deceased’s family.

The driver had arrived at a residence to deliver the pizza when he became entangled in an altercation with a customer. Upon police arrival, the delivery man reported that he had been confronted by two men, one of whom was armed. The alleged armed robber was shot, and his accomplice fled the scene.

As Houston Police Department Sgt. Mark Holbrook explained, “We’re not sure how the pizza delivery went so wrong that somebody wound up getting shot. But that is what we’re investigating right now.”

The man who was fatally shot has since been identified by his brother, Ameer White, as 21-year-old Areyeh White. Ameer White has challenged the delivery driver’s story, stating, “They say he was the pizza delivery guy, but we don’t have a receipt that he was buying a pizza. If you were the pizza delivery guy, why did you have a, why were you armed?”

Despite this doubt, Sgt. Holbrook confirmed that the police had verified a pizza delivery did take place that night. “The driver is cooperating and speaking with investigators about this incident. And there were witnesses who saw parts of what happened,” Holbrook detailed. “There was a pizza delivery.”

While the specifics of the incident are under investigation, authorities have yet to confirm whether a firearm was found on the deceased’s body.

Areyeh White had been at his girlfriend’s apartment at the time of the incident, according to his brother. Speaking about the impact of his brother’s death, Ameer White shared, “It most definitely destroyed me. Because he said he was going to be home in 30 minutes. I stayed up for him.”

The Houston police have announced that the final decision on whether charges will be brought against the delivery driver will be left to a grand jury.

In the face of this tragic event and the uncertainties surrounding it, Ameer White expressed his faith and resilience, stating, “Honestly, only God got the last answer and I’m sure he’ll figure it out for us. Just trying to keep myself and my family strong.”

In a shocking turn of events on May 4th, a longstanding dispute over a basketball hoop escalated into a fatal shooting. According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, 63-year-old Norman Scott allegedly shot and killed his neighbors, Tara Marie Jones and Taylor Glenn Jones. The deadly encounter occurred in broad daylight around 5:30 p.m., just outside of the Jones’ residence on Galleria Street in the upscale Black Diamond community in Wellington, Florida.

A mysterious comment from the Scott’s attorney, Brian Pakett, left many intrigued and unsettled. Pakett stated to WPTV-TV,
“There’s a lot more to this case than we all know now.”

There were witnesses to the tragic event, one of whom claimed that Scott openly admitted to his crime. After the witness asked if Scott had heard anything regarding the incident, Scott chillingly replied,
“Don’t worry, I shot them both.”

Despite this, Scott called the police himself, reporting the shooting and claiming it was an act of self-defense. He went as far as to tell another witness that he had been attacked first. However, the police reported that surveillance footage from the Jones’ home contradicted Scott’s account. The video allegedly showed one of the victims raising their hands and retreating just before Scott shot him three to four times.

The surveillance video then showed Scott turning his attention to the female victim before returning to the first victim, who he shot two more times as the man attempted to walk away. Tragically, both victims were declared dead at the scene.

When analyzing the video, detectives noted that,
“at no point during this encounter” did Taylor Jones appear to be a threat to Scott. The investigators discovered expended cartridge cases from a 9mm gun near the victims’ bodies and located the firearm inside Scott’s home, casually left on a table.

In the face of this damning evidence, Scott now faces two charges of first-degree murder with a firearm and is currently held without bond at the Palm Beach County jail. Despite his lawyer’s claims that Scott was a church-going mechanic without prior criminal history, many struggle to reconcile this image with the violent actions he’s accused of committing.

Describing the incident as “extremely tragic,” Pakett confirmed the death of the two victims. The sudden and violent loss has left the Jones’ four children parentless. A GoFundMe campaign set up to support them has garnered an outpouring of support, raising over $158,000.

Taylor and Tara Jones had recently relocated to Florida from the west coast. Their sudden, needless deaths have cast a pall over the quiet village of Wellington, population 61,000, located just west of West Palm Beach.

A judicial official in Oklahoma finds himself on the flip side of the law, as he has been indicted for involvement in two separate drive-by shootings that took place in 2023, one of which took place on a property belonging to his brother-in-law.

Close to 3:30 in the afternoon on the 12th of February, 2023, a vehicle approached a ranch in Bison, Oklahoma, approximately 75 miles north of Oklahoma City, and discharged several shots. The property’s owner, Kenneth Markes, has stated that bullets pierced his residence, causing damage to a window, a wall, and his oven. A solitary bullet alongside five empty .40-caliber shell casings was later found at the scene. Although Markes’ son was present at the time, thankfully, no one was harmed.

Markes expressed his disbelief by saying, “Seeing a person in a window, and missing by a matter of inches, is not just a random shooting.”

Notably, two days after this event, Markes’ brother-in-law, Brian Lovell — a 59-year-old associate judge in Garfield County, Oklahoma — reported that a firearm had been stolen from his vehicle.

As the year progressed to September 11th, a man was seen in a white SUV near the crossroads of Matamoros and Santa Maria in Austin, Texas, allegedly pointing a weapon and firing at other vehicles. A witness described the suspect as “a white male, wearing a baseball-style hat and grey shirt.”

The suspect reportedly fired a minimum of five shots, with police finding “several vehicles with projectile defect in them,” according to the affidavit. Three .40-caliber shell casings were later discovered at the scene.

Interestingly, about an hour later, Judge Brian Lovell was arrested less than two miles from the intersection where the shooting occurred, after his white SUV with Oklahoma plates allegedly hit another vehicle twice.

The affidavit stated, “This SUV was driven by a white male, wearing a baseball-style hat and a grey shirt who was identified as Brian Noel Lovell … by his Oklahoma Driver’s License.” Police also spotted “a black firearm in the front passenger floor board of Lovell’s SUV.”

Lovell confirmed that he had hit the woman’s vehicle twice but denied doing so intentionally. When questioned about the shooting earlier that day, he seemed to draw a blank. “Lovell advised he did not know why he would have shot his gun and he could not recall any part of the shooting incident,” the affidavit said.

Fortunately, no one was hurt in either the Austin shooting or the minor vehicle accident.

In November, two months after the Austin shooting and nine months after Markes’ ranch shooting, ballistic tests revealed both incidents involved the same weapon, a Glock 23 .40-caliber.

Fast forward to February 2024, Lovell found himself under arrest and facing eight felony counts of deadly conduct — discharge of a firearm relating to the Austin shooting. He was granted a $10,000 bond and released upon payment. His hearing for this case is set for June.

Recently, Lovell was arraigned on one felony count of use of a vehicle to facilitate the discharge of a firearm and an alternative felony count of discharging a firearm into a dwelling in relation to the shooting at Markes’ residence. As Lovell did not enter a plea, the court entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf. He was given a $25,000 bond and released under the condition that he avoids Markes and his family and all firearms.

Stephen Jones, Lovell’s defense attorney in Oklahoma, questions the indictment. “It was a long time before the indictment was returned and that bears on him and his family. But he’s a strong character,” Jones stated. “And in my view, he’s innocent.”

Jones further conveyed the defense’s intention to “attack the jurisdiction and soundness of the indictment.” “From our own investigation, the evidence is insufficient to convince a jury beyond a reasonable doubt,” Jones argued.

Meanwhile, Markes displayed less confidence in his brother-in-law’s innocence. “I had no idea that it could’ve been Brian Lovell,” Markes shared. He reiterated his earlier sentiment: “Seeing a person in a window, and missing by a matter of inches, is not just a random shooting.”

Lovell’s court hearing concerning the shooting at Markes’ ranch is scheduled for late August. Garfield County District Judge Paul Woodward previously stated that Lovell had agreed not to preside over cases until his own case is fully resolved.
