Wild Chase: Eratic Driver Is Caught With Drink In Her Hand
A dramatic incident unfolded in San Antonio, Texas, capturing the attention of many as a video of an alleged drunk driver went viral. The footage, which has sparked widespread discussion, shows a woman holding a drink while leading police on a chaotic chase through a bustling parking lot, eventually crashing into several vehicles.
The events took place around 2 p.m. on a Thursday afternoon, featuring 37-year-old Audrey Marie Schneider behind the wheel of a white Toyota SUV. The chase, which began in Comal County, extended onto a highway before culminating in the busy shopping plaza in Bexar County.
As reported by WOAI-TV, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper initially attempted to stop Schneider on Interstate 35, but she allegedly chose to flee. The chase intensified as multiple police cruisers pursued her through the shopping center’s parking lot, putting pedestrians in harm’s way.
Freelance photographer Alec Dyer, who captured the viral video, described the scene as surreal and alarming.
“It felt really surreal. I couldn’t even believe it,” he said.
He added, “Just witnessing that, I was, like, mentally preparing, ‘Oh no. I’m about to see something traumatic happen in front of me.‘ The whole time I’m thinking, ‘Oh no! At this rate, she’s gonna kill somebody. She’s gonna hurt somebody.‘”
The video vividly depicts Schneider’s erratic driving, including collisions with other vehicles and police cruisers. Despite the chaos, she is seen holding up a drink during the chase, further raising concerns about her state of intoxication.
Eventually, police managed to corner Schneider’s SUV, but she attempted to evade capture by fleeing into a nearby business. The pursuit concluded with officers escorting her out of the store in handcuffs, her clothes soaked and dark marks visible on her face.
Even in custody, Schneider appeared unfazed, smiling and making light of the situation.
“I’m so sorry,” she remarked.
A bystander inquired about pressing charges after claiming Schneider threw a can of beer at them. Schneider’s response was nonchalant:
“Yes, please do. I double-dog dare you.”
While restrained against a police cruiser, she bizarrely commented, “Santa is coming.”
Before being transported to Bexar County Jail, Schneider was assessed by emergency medical services. Her charges include driving while intoxicated with an open alcohol container, assaulting a peace officer, evading arrest in a vehicle, and two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant.
This isn’t Schneider’s first brush with the law concerning driving and alcohol. In 2017, she faced a charge of obstruction of a highway while intoxicated, which was later dismissed after she received deferred adjudication.
