In a recent incident in DeSoto, Texas, a woman defended herself against an armed intruder who attempted to break into her home. The confrontation unfolded on a Friday evening, as reported by local law enforcement.

According to the DeSoto Police Department, they were alerted to “an active disturbance” at a residence on Raintree Circle around 7:54 p.m. The alert came after a woman called 911, reporting an unknown man with a pistol in her backyard.

During the call, dispatchers could hear the commotion as the man tried to “force his way inside the home through the rear garage door.” This alarming situation prompted neighbors to also contact authorities, reporting gunshots in the vicinity.

Police arrived at the scene within three minutes of the initial call. They found the woman outside her home, who informed them that she had likely shot the intruder “somewhere at the back of the house.”

Upon entering the residence, officers discovered the man, identified as 35-year-old Octavio Flores Mondragon, lying on the garage floor with a pistol nearby. He had sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and face.

Mondragon was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The woman recounted to the police that she had become aware of a dark truck trailing her after leaving a nearby Taco Bell. The vehicle followed her into her neighborhood and parked behind her in her driveway.

In response to the threat, she hurried inside, contacted 911, and armed herself with a pistol. When Mondragon attempted to breach her home, she fired multiple shots, hitting him twice.

Mondragon now faces charges of first-degree burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony. As of now, the motive behind his actions remains unknown.
