Woman’s Quick Thinking Foils Armed Kidnapping in Indianapolis Drama

On a seemingly ordinary Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis, a dramatic incident unfolded that underscored the unpredictable nature of police work. Around 3:30 p.m., officers were engaged in an unrelated theft investigation in the 1000 block of North Kealing Ave. when an unexpected turn of events demanded their immediate attention.

A woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, brought her vehicle to a sudden stop near the officers. She quickly exited the car and alerted them that a male passenger had been holding her at gunpoint. According to Kendale Adams, deputy chief of criminal investigations, the woman did not know the man who had allegedly forced her to drive with a gun aimed at her head.

Upon hearing the woman’s distressing account, officers swiftly responded. They instructed the suspect to raise his hands, but instead, he pointed a handgun at both the officers and at least one bystander. In response to the imminent threat, an officer discharged his firearm, hitting the suspect at least once. A taser was also employed in an effort to subdue him.

“The suspect was still holding the firearm,” Adams noted. Officers then managed to remove the weapon from the suspect’s hand and extracted him from the vehicle. First aid was administered promptly, and the suspect was transported to a hospital, where he remained in critical but stable condition as of late Sunday.

The woman had strategically driven to the location upon spotting the officers, hoping to “alert the officers to the situation.” Her quick thinking potentially prevented a more tragic outcome.

As is standard procedure, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave while internal affairs conduct a thorough investigation. A Civilian Use of Force Review Board is also set to examine the incident following the conclusion of the criminal process.

Reflecting on the day’s events, Bailey, another official, remarked, “Our officers were here on a thief report and violence came to them.” He emphasized that the officers were not conducting a traffic stop or executing a search warrant at the time.

Bailey further expressed the complexity of the situation: “If anybody here, or out watching, has a solution to prevent what happened here today, I’m all ears. There’s no way in my mind this could have been prevented other than the person not forcefully taking and kidnapping a woman, forcing her to drive around while a gun was pointed to her head.”

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable and often dangerous scenarios that law enforcement officers face, highlighting both the challenges and the critical nature of their role in ensuring public safety.

IT is amazing, “we” pay for a flawed system with idiots at the helm, that care NOTHING about the people paying them. Then the same idiots, scrutinize us when we have to defend ourselves from the repeat offenders, that they REFUSE to keep OUT of our screwed up society? We need a BIG change…. FAST

This is why it is critical to learn to use a firearm, and lock your doors when driving. Always be alert, the criminals don’t care about going to prison, they’ve been there, done that, and know they’ll be right back out doing whatever they want, because the system is working for THEM! Time to start making it work for US! If they start getting put in the ground faster, the smarter ones might get the hint, if not, then they do the dirt dance. Darwin is waiting, FAFO!
