Texas Homeowner Defends Property in Intense Shootout with Burglars
In the early hours of a Texas homeowner faced a harrowing encounter with would-be burglars attempting to break into his work vehicles. The incident unfolded in the Meadows of Clear Creek subdivision in southeast Harris County, leaving the homeowner, Pablo Covarrubias, with no choice but to defend his property.
Covarrubias was alerted to the situation by his 19-year-old son, who woke him up just after 1 a.m. The suspects were targeting two vehicles used for his HVAC business.
“There was no time to react. I mean, I just had my pistol right there on the side of my bed. I got up,” Covarrubias explained.
Surveillance footage captured the tense moments as Covarrubias and his son stepped outside. Before they could make it far, the suspects opened fire. In response, Covarrubias returned fire, forcing the intruders to flee in what he believes was a black BMW.
While a bullet struck a jack-o’-lantern on Covarrubias’ porch, it remains uncertain if his shots hit the suspects.
“We don’t know if the perpetrators, the suspects, were hit,” stated Sgt. Hector Vega from the Harris County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office. As of now, the suspects have not been identified.
Covarrubias hopes the confrontation served as a deterrent for future criminal activity.
“I think next time they’ll think twice, hopefully, that you just can’t go around taking people’s property,” he remarked.
This incident underscores the risks homeowners face and the lengths they may go to protect their property.
