Knife Attack on Officer Sparks Debate Over Police Tactics In Body Cam Footage
Recently released body camera footage has brought to light a harrowing encounter between a Virginia police officer and a woman wielding a knife, which resulted in the woman’s death. The incident occurred during a wellness check, leading to widespread public concern over the circumstances.
The Fairfax County Police Department released the footage following public uproar over the death of 33-year-old Sydney Wilson. The video captures Officer Peter Liu, a crisis intervention specialist, as he approaches Wilson’s apartment. This visit was prompted by concerns raised by Wilson’s doctor regarding her mental health.
Initially, Wilson opened the door to Liu but quickly shut it again. Undeterred, Liu continued to knock for nearly ten minutes, hoping to engage Wilson in conversation.
Suddenly, Wilson reopened the door and immediately attacked Liu with a knife. The footage shows Liu retreating into the hallway, drawing his firearm, and commanding Wilson to retreat.
Wilson, however, pursued Liu with her knife raised. Despite Liu’s repeated verbal commands to “back up,” she continued to advance. Liu’s attempts to de-escalate the situation were evident as he backed into a dead-end hallway, issuing commands to “please back up.”
With his back against another apartment door, Liu was left with no escape as Wilson slashed at him once more. In response, Liu fired his weapon as Wilson continued her assault. Liu managed to push past Wilson into the hallway, but she grabbed him and continued her attack, prompting Liu to fire additional rounds.
The confrontation ended as Liu retreated into a longer hallway, and Wilson collapsed. Moments later, additional officers arrived on the scene, capturing footage of Liu with his face covered in blood from a slash to the forehead. Despite efforts to resuscitate Wilson, she did not survive.
Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis addressed the incident, stating:
“Our police officer acted valiantly. He certainly exhibited some grace under pressure.”
Officer Liu is currently on administrative leave while both criminal and internal investigations are conducted to review the incident.

Every time a black gets shot there is a big outcry no matter what. Seems unless the cop gets several stab wounds he shouldn’t have shot the individual. It really gets tiring the way blacks think and a large percentage of mental people get that way from using drugs.

Officer did everything he could. Too bad. Woman was nuts. Rather she be gone than the officer. Imagine the outcry if it had been a white officer.

Fortunently the officer had a body camera. Otherwise he would be accused with murder! It didn’t say what race either participant was so I can’t make a a decision of “racisms” can be charged. It seems to me that the officer exercised extreme restraint!

Wore the badge many years. He had been left no choice. No officer ever wants to shoot, but sometimes its the last choice.

There are times where the actions of police officers deserve to be scrutinized. This is NOT one of them.
