A suspect has been apprehended following a manhunt after a Texas deputy constable was tragically shot and killed while on his way to work, according to police reports.

The Harris County Constable Precinct 4 identified the fallen officer as Deputy Maher Husseini on Tuesday afternoon. The suspect was captured after a brief pursuit. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect’s vehicle and initiated a chase that ended when the vehicle crashed into the water near Old Causeway in Galveston, as reported by FOX 26 Houston.

Houston Police Department Chief Noe Diaz described the suspect as an “assailant.” He explained that Husseini was in his personal vehicle and had stopped at a red light when a man exited another vehicle, approached, and shot the deputy.

“We are working on an unfortunate, a tragic incident, where a local constable was shot by an assailant who we have yet to identify,” Diaz stated, noting that Husseini suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s name. However, they described him as a Middle Eastern male, aged 35 to 40 years, approximately 5-foot-9, and weighing around 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing dark clothing and has dark thinning hair.

The suspect’s vehicle was identified as a charcoal-gray Chevy Impala, distinguished by a “very unique bumper disfigurement underneath,” according to Diaz.

Deputy Husseini had been serving with Constable Mark Herman’s Office since 2021, primarily patrolling the South-Central District. The Harris County Constable Precinct 4 took to social media, stating, “Please keep Deputy Constable Husseini in your prayers.”

Chief Diaz emphasized the profound impact of the loss on the local community, describing it as “terrible” and something that “shouldn’t happen.”

“Any loss of life is trauma. Any death is terrible in this community,” he said. “Being a deputy, it just brings us closer as police officers who are here to serve the community. It shouldn’t happen.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477 or the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.

a gun cannot be used by a criminal, IF he is behind bars OR has reached room or casket temperature. This is not “rocket science”. I could understand simple things like this when I was very young.
