Midnight Marauder Meets his Match in Armed Kentucky Homeowner
A distressing incident recently unfolded in a quiet Kentucky residence. In the dead of night, an armed criminal made the fatal mistake of breaking into a prepared homeowner’s property, an altercation that ended with the intruder losing his life.
Kentucky state police relayed the details of this unsettling episode to WDKY-TV, recounting that they had responded to a shooting reported on Linda Lane in the city of Cadiz, Trigg County. Cadiz, positioned near the border of Kentucky and Tennessee, is an hour and 20 minute drive northwest of Nashville.
Trigg County Sheriff Aaron Acree publicly stated, “No arrests have been made”. His statement, along with the information provided by state police that this was an “isolated incident” and that there was “no danger to the public,” helped pacify the rattled community.
The preliminary investigation, as told to the Marshall County Daily by state police, paints a chilling picture. Reportedly, an armed male intruder forced entry into the home. Undaunted, he further intruded by forcing his way into a room within the property.
“State police told WDKY that it was an “isolated incident” and there was no danger to the public.”
However, the homeowner was not one to be easily victimized. The authorities informed WDKY that the homeowner shot the intruder, who was later declared dead at the scene.
The identity of the intruder was later released by police on Sunday. He was identified as 25-year-old Austin Gardner, as reported by WKDZ-FM.
In the aftermath of the incident, law enforcement officials thoroughly cordoned off Linda Lane for several hours. This was done to facilitate the collection of evidence and to allow for the proper questioning of witnesses, according to WKDZ. Additionally, law enforcement confirmed to WDKY that investigations were ongoing.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the necessity of being prepared for the unexpected. Even in the safety of one’s home, danger can lurk around the corner. Fortunately, in this case, the homeowner had the means to defend their life and their property. In a world fraught with uncertainty, one lesson stands clear: it pays to be prepared.
