Divine Intervention Saves Pastor During Mid-Sermon Assassination Attempt

On a typical Sunday afternoon at the Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock, Pennsylvania, Pastor Glenn Germany was in the midst of delivering his sermon when he noticed a man moving from the back to the front of the sanctuary. Unlike the infamous incident a few weeks ago where an Australian bishop was attacked mid-sermon, this man was reportedly armed with a handgun.

Pastor Germany shockingly recounted the terrifying incident to WTAE-TV, “I started to begin to preach, and all of a sudden, from my left-hand side, I saw him move from the back to the front of the church, and he set up in the front corner of the church and smiled at me,” Germany reported. “All of a sudden, I just saw a gun pointing right at me. And at that point, all I could try to do is run for cover.”

The individual, later identified as Bernard Junior Polite, 26, aimed his weapon at the pastor and attempted to discharge it. However, the Pennsylvania State Police revealed that the firearm “failed to discharge.”

“I’m thankful to God that I’m still here, because he definitely pulled the trigger,” Germany expressed. Speaking to WPXI-TV, he further elaborated, “You heard him shoot it. God jammed the gun so the bullet didn’t come out.”

The congregation watched in stunned silence as the trigger was pulled, but there was no gunshot. Instead, they witnessed the heroic actions of the church’s deacon, Clarence McCallister, who charged at Polite. As Germany took cover behind the podium, McCallister managed to tackle Polite and wrest the gun from him.

Grateful to his defender, Pastor Germany acknowledged, “He sacrificed himself for everyone, and he’s the hero.” Sharing his thoughts, McCallister told KDKA-TV, “There’s something that needs to be done, and I jumped up and handled my business.”

After the incident, Pastor Germany had a brief conversation with Polite, who offered an apology. “This guy was just dealing with spirits, he said, and he came in and wanted to shoot somebody,” Germany explained to KDKA. “He said you ducked a taco today, that’s what he told me, and I guess that’s slang for you ducked a bullet.”

Charged with multiple offenses including aggravated assault and attempted homicide, Polite was denied bail and now faces a considerable period of incarceration. His motive for the attempted assassination, as per the charging document, was reportedly that “Gold told him to do it” and he sought jail time to clear his mind.

In the aftermath of the terrifying ordeal, Pastor Germany was most impacted by the fact that his 14-year-old daughter had witnessed the incident. “The thing that hurts me the most and brings tears to my eyes because I couldn’t watch my daughter break down,” he painfully shared with KDKA. “I still had to be strong, because I had to be strong for her, but I couldn’t take it, and just seeing her, that’s the part that’s hard for me to digest.”

Showing remarkable resilience, the Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church shared in a Facebook post, “We are so thankful and grateful to God for keeping His hands over each and everyone of us there.” The statement also reassured the community that Pastor Germany was doing well and was grateful to be alive.
